in 2014 a well loved Zoo located in Qld Australia had to close after 45 years of operation to make way for a housing development.
So what does one do with a Zoo full of animals?
They could have been split up and moved to different Zoo locations, however Julie Seabrook took it upon herself to ensure the 200 strong animal family that had lived at the Zoo should ideally remain in tact.
Julie negotiated with the owners to assume guardianship of the 200 strong animal family.
Now what? Where to go and how to move them?
Julie and her team of dedicated keepers managed to move herds, packs, troops and individuals to their new location at the iconic “BIG Pineapple” on the Queensland Sunshine Coast.
Settled and safe, the Zoo family remains in tact providing the least stressful outcome for all (except maybe those people who completed the move)
Such is their dedication that in July 2015 the team at Wildlife HQ were thrilled to achieve accreditation under the ZAA Accreditation Program.
The position of ZAA is that all zoos and aquariums have a responsibility to ensure a high standard of animal welfare for all animals in their care. Conservation, education, research and recreational goals of zoological organisations must be underpinned by positive animal welfare.
The surrounds and atmosphere of the Wildlife HQ Zoo is a pleasure to behold.
They even allow “encounters” meaning you can get up close with a range of animals to learn about their unique characters and gain a first hand understanding of the needs of our surroundings.
You can join us in following this amazing journey by tuning in to
or visiting them next time you are in the area.
